Title: Mathematical background for a method on quotient signal decomposition

Abstract: A method to detect the number of sources in the blind source separation problem is discussed. Assuming an independence of sources in the time-frequency space, the number of sources is estimated through the quotient of complex valued windowed Fourier or wavelet transforms of two observed signals. A mathematical formulation of the method is proposed, and various examples are presented.
