Topic: Detecting Social Contexts by Monitoring Wireless Transmissions (2009 - Present)
Owing to the rapid development of mobile technologies and expansion of ubiquitous environments, it has become essential to consider about efficient methods to extract the real world context data. Various opportunities to share the public spaces have increased the possibilities to exchange beneficial information using such technologies, while perceiving the social activities of surrounding people. I have been observing the daily detection logs of mobile devices carried by the users. The purpose of my work is to determine social contexts and changes of the surrounding environments by analyzing the quantity of devices continuously or simultaneously detected on the detection log. With feasible applications, the results and findings examined in several different environments will enhance the content of research in enriching the campus life, contributing to the convenience and betterment in daily life, and hopefully, providing appropriate measures in emergency situations.

I have been engaged in the research of implementation and utilization of virtual collaborative space. Focusing on the field of “university campus”, the major concept of the research has been to construct Digital Campus to expand educational opportunities and possibilities without limitations and restrictions in terms of time and location. The prototype of Digital Campus has been built and the usability and effects have been evaluated by students in different experimental environments. In order to enhance the virtual collaborative space, other projects have also been conducted in such areas as (i) Modeling the dynamic behaviors of avatars in virtual space, (ii) Context-aware pedestrian navigation system, (iii) P2P-based geometric computation method for extracting range of interest from ubiquitous video cameras, and so forth.
